As Good as Dead (2010)
As Good As Dead, a mystery and thriller with some good dramatic scenes, is Jonathan Mossek’s second film. It has a surprisingly good plot. Reverend Calahan (Brian Cox) is murdered after one of his congregations. Reverend is not a typical preacher in the church around the corner, he is in an extreme right wing group. That white supremacy group has their own church with all the Nazi symbols. A few years later, some members of his flock pay to the left wing supporter main character Ethan Belfrage (Cary Elwes) a visit in his flat and torture him believing that he is the murderer. Ethan has some problems with his landlord: his landlord wants to evict him so that he can build a new resident there, but Ethan is determined to not leave the house. So he believes that those vicious visitors are the work of his landlord. In spite of all that torture both towards him and his unlucky neighbour who just happens to be there, he keeps saying that he has no idea what they are talking about. As it turns out, the wife of Reverend Kalahan, Helen Kalahan (Andie McDowell) wants revenge and is looking for the murderer passionately. The plot is full of twists and everything, even the things which do not seem to make sense at all find their meaning in the end. The actors, every single one of them perform so well that the audience can easily relate to them and get sucked into their world. As the supporting characters, two Redneck accomplices of the wife are amazing. Frank Whaley and Matt Dallas give the chills to the audience as pure evil walking and talking. As a dark mystery drama and psycho-thriller, the film is successful at keeping you wondering as well as making you nervous with all the acting and the plot. If you like the genre, you should definitely watch this film.
