Brooklyn's Finest (2010)This is War. This is Brooklyn.
If you want to watch a movie about the real things in life then Brooklyn's Finest is definitely right for you. It tells the stories of three different cops and their inner battles.
Eddie (Richard Gere) is street cop about to retire who is sick of all the atrocities he sees every day. Tango (Don Cheadle) works under cover, but he is willing to protect the local kingpin played by Wesley Snipes. Sal (Ethan Hawke) is a narcotics cup who is tempted by the money in this criminal industry as he needs a new home for his family. The characters have no connections with each other until they meet at a bloodbath accident.
The plot is fine and has its fair share of twists and turns, but the main focus is on the drama rather than on the action. Still, there are some thriller elements that will keep you interested in the development of the story. The dialogues are smart, although the authors could have done better. The gloomy feeling is not totally overwhelming, although at times the drama seems to be a bit too much. You can truly connect to the characters simply because they are not only good or bad, but just like us.
The cast of the movie is considered to be one of the best things in it. You can definitely expect fantastic performances from top actors such as Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke. The director Antonie Fuqua has done a fine job showing the audience all the terrible aspects of life. However, there seem to be too many panoramic shots. This does not correspond to the overall drama and slows the pace of the action too much at some points.
Brooklyn's Finest has a bit of everything – drama, action and thrill. This along with the excellent cast makes it absolutely worth watching.
Starring: Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes
