Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove (2010)
This is a natural family movie with values like friendship, importance of family, supporting each other, love for animals. Will Geiger (Ocean Tribe, Elvis and Annabelle) directs the latest Free Willy film. This time, Jason James Richter does not have a role in the film. Our lead stars are Beau Bridges as Gus Crisby and the lovely, 11 year old Bindi Irwin, the daughter of Steve Irwin, as the very sweet Kirra Cooper. The story takes place in South Africa in this sequel. The Pirate’s Cove is an amusement park which is run by Gus. In the summer, his granddaughter he barely had seen comes from Australia for the holidays. They are a little strange and their relationship is a bit stiff at first. In the meantime, a big storm leads a killer whale which is just a baby into the lagoon of the park and it gets stuck. Gus, the greedy grandfather wants to keep the whale for show and get as much money as possible. Kirra, on the other hand, befriends the baby whale and names him Willy. She tries to find ways to free Willy into the ocean to find its pod. Here, we see the love of the little girl with her big heart and courage to help her animal friend. Her relationship with Gus becomes tense and a little wild when he decides to keep the whale for attraction in the theme park, but luckily Kirra’s heart is strong and kind enough to warm and eventually melt her grandfather’s, releasing the kindness that has been suppressed for quite some time since he and his family had fallen out resulting in his estrangement from his family in the recent years. It is a nice children’s movie with open messages about love and family.
