Micmacs (2009)Micmacs a tire-larigot
Legendarily whimsical and brilliant director of films Amelie, A Very Long Engagement and Things I Like Things I Don’t Like; Jean Pierre Jeunet is ready to delight the film viewers with another feast to the eyes and some fun story blended in those glamorous scenes. In his very last movie Micmacs (Micmacs a tire-larigot), which is an old fashioned yet modern slapstick comedy rahter than a drama, Jeunet manages to leave the audience in some joyful awe. The story begins with the summary of the main character Bazil’s (portrayed by Danny Boon) life in the form of an amazing short film. We learn that his father was killed by the sudden and unexpected explosion of an unknown landmine. Despite this tragedy in his childhood, he has managed to turn his life around and he now owns a video store and lives in a small, nice apartment. However, a stray bullet hits him in the head in front of his store and it has to be left there. He nearly dies. Furthermore, he loses his apartment and job in this painful process and starts living on the streets. While struggling with the difficulties of life, the pain in his heart and the bullet in his head, he is offered shelter by a whimsical and loving gang of seven people named Slammer (portrayed by Jean Pierre Marielle), Mama Chow (portrayed by Yolanda Moreau), Buster (played by Jeunet’s regular Dominique Pinon), Tiny Pete (portrayed by Michel Cremades), Remington (portrayed by Omar Sy), Calculator (portrayed by Marie Julie Baup) and Bazil's little interested love Elastic Girl (portrayed by Julie Ferrier). Bazil finds out that the landmine that had killed his father and the bullet that had him injured and lost in life were manufactured by two rival arms dealers in Paris and he decides to take his revenge and his seven eccentric friends decide to join him in his quest. This comedy is something to see, it will surely make you laugh most of the time.
