Starstruck (2010)
Disney’s new teen movie Starstruck is about unexpected love of a young girl and a teen Hollywood star and you can guess all the consequences of stardom in a romance like that. Jessica (Danielle Campbell) is a teenage girl who has nothing to do with fame or stars. She likes her normal life and has no intention of meeting anybody famous when she goes to Los Angeles for a visit to her grandparents. Irony of fate, she and the adorable young star Christopher Wilde (Sterling Knight) bump into each other and even though Jessica is no interested in either him or his fame, they have to spend time together due to crazy paparazzi, who cannot get enough of Christopher and his alleged girlfriends. But the reality of fame strikes eventually, and the sweet soul, kind heart of Christopher gets overshadowed by his Hollywood personality and he breaks Jessica’s heart. We have some typical supporting characters as well: Alexis Bender (Chelsea Staub) as the mean girl, Stubby (Brandon Smith) as the friend of Christopher’s from the on production show in the show and Jessica’s sister Sara (Maggie Castle) plays a big part on Jessica’s prejudice and frustration on Christopher in the first place. As a regular Disney movie, there is a lot of teen drama and a predictable reconciliation between the heart broken Jessica and coming-to-senses Chrispother. The film has some nice songs as well. Sterling Knight as the Hollywood star is very convincing and good in his role, but I would not say the same for Danielle Campbell. She looks a little artifical and non-believable in her character and Chelsea Staub would be a better and more likeable lead instead of the mean girl. All in all, it is a fun film to watch and enjoy the songs.
