Stephanie's Image (2009)
Janis DeLucia Allen's mystery drama genre film "Stephanie's Image" is about a photographer (as the narrator, played by the director Janis DeLucia Allen) making a documentary on one of her friends, who had also been her subject of work. When the model Stephanie's (Melissa Leo) body along with her boyfriend Richard's (Chris Butler), with a gun in his hands, was found, the police calls the case a murder suicide and the case is closed. In the memory of her friend Stephanie, the photographer decides to make a documentary and the more she interviews friends and family of her, the more she thinks that the facts stated by the police and everybody else do not present the truth. She gets deeper into the investigation due to her journalist instincts, very uncomfortably and unwillingly though. She finds that she was obsessed with the “perfect picture” which projects her real self undeniably and she had been looking for it since. Moreover, as her photographer, the possibility that she might have unknowingly added to that obsession and lead to her death shocks her. As the story unfolds, she finds the tape in which Stephanie tries to explain her inner self but is not able to do so. The film is intriguing, full of mystery and drama that hooks the audience and the shocking ending hits you. J.P. Allen's script is very well written and Janis DeLucia as both the director and narrator fills the rich story with more juicy details. Melissa Leo, the Academy Award nominated actress successfully portrays the model's troubles with the reflection of her inner self to her image. This mysterious journey into a troubled woman's head; especially knowing that all we focus on if the person is a model, is her image; becomes very dramatic and thought stimulating and it is very well worth seeing.
